ELLIPTICAL EXERCISE MACHINE


















If you exercise on a regular basis you have probably had your fill of treadmills and exercise bikes.  If you are looking to add some spice to your current aerobic program an elliptical exercise machine may be for you.  They offer a weight-bearing, low-impact form of exercise that is appropriate for people of any fitness level.  You can use them in conjunction with treadmills and exercise bikes as part of an aerobic training circuit or completely alter your training program by sticking solely to the elliptical exercise machine.  However you implement them into your program, the elliptical exercise machine is a great way to boost your fitness.

 

The most popular manufacturer of elliptical exercise machines is Precor.  The company touts their machines as combining the best of stair climbing, cross country skiing and running.  This is all done in a  low impact aerobic exercise that is superior to all other machines.  The Precor website states that the unique elliptical motion minimizes impact to your joints and lower back while exercising the muscles of your lower body, a key to effective aerobic exercise.  With a lower rate of perceived exertion, the elliptical exercise machine makes workouts seem easier than other aerobic exercises.  This encourages a more dynamic exercise process with quicker results.

 

Manufacturer claims state that elliptical exercise machines can burn calories at a rate of over 700 per hour.  This of course will vary depending on age and gender.  When using an elliptical exercise machine remember to always warm up and finish with a cool down and a good stretch.  Also, never change the exercise by holding dumbbells or trying to perform other exercises while on the elliptical exercise machine.  Stick to the manufacturers guidelines and just watch the pounds melt away
