FITNESS CENTER
The term fitness center brings to mind many different types of facilities. To get a great workout it just depends on what you are looking for. There are private studios, large gyms and sporting clubs, and facilities that focus on rehabilitation. Some fitness centers are very high end and some are affordable to the starving student. We will cover the fitness center for the body builder, seniors, the family and just about everything in between. Let’s face it, the body builders fitness center is going to be different than that of a senior who is post surgery and may have a heart condition. There is something for everyone in just about every city in America.
Let’s begin with the large fitness center that tries to cater to everyone. The up side is they have a ton of equipment in both the cardiovascular area as well as weights. Some have many sporting facilities such as basketball and tennis. They tend to have a full schedule of classes and some even provide daycare. The down side is this type of club is usually very crowded at peak times. This can mean limited time on equipment and possibly waiting for machines, but easy on the budget for singles as well as the family membership. This type of fitness center is a good option for people who are comfortable working out around many other people and those who want to do a lot of classes. They are particularly great for travel because there is usually a large network of these types of clubs all over the country.
Another popular fitness center is the private studio that focuses specifically on personal training. This is a wonderful place to start for someone who has zero experience in working out or the seasoned athlete who needs sport specific training. It is a private studio without distraction that can provide you with the education on safety, fitness program design, and can usually cater to anyone from the physically disabled to the elite athlete. The private fitness center will typically have less equipment and may not allow you to get in a workout outside your personal training session. These studios work mainly on a appointment basis. The client will usually just pay for the training sessions but sometimes may have an initial fee and/or a monthly fee as well.
There are now many sports centers that are linked with surgery centers or hospitals that are run by doctors and physical therapists. This type of fitness center is particularly great for someone rehabilitating from cardiovascular surgery, or a sport injury surgery. These centers usually offer great supervised programs for seniors as well. This fitness center will have cardio equipment, weights, and often a pool where aquatic classes or physical therapy are held.
The body building fitness center will have a very different feel to it than those mentioned above. This is where you get the raw weight training set up and a serious gym atmosphere. You will be greeted by the grunts and groans of power lifters. This fitness center will be loaded with free weights, ranging from light weight to very heavy, as well as machines and cardio equipment. Typically they are very friendly and not too expensive to join. The body builders fitness center can be intimidating for some but you’ll be sure to get in some great workouts without any hassle or chit chatting from other members.
Lastly are the high end athletic clubs. These fitness center will offer many amenities and activities as well as a great variety of fitness equipment. Usually the high end fitness center may also contain a spa offering many beauty and health treatments for additional cost. They cater to families so they tend to have great daycare with kids activities, gymnasiums, pools for kids and pools for adults, a nutrition bar and/or a café and special events. This type of fitness center usually has a steep initiation fee and high monthly fees as well as additional costs for other amenities and services. The high end fitness center is a pleasure to workout at and experience but not necessary for everyone to indulge in.
This is a basic overview of what type of fitness center awaits you. Find what works best for your taste and try out a few on a daily fee or guest pass to see if it is what you are looking for before you join. Also decide if you want to join a fitness center on a monthly basis or long term commitment, sometimes the price can very with different packages
