Lifestyle changes should always include a fitness workout. A fitness workout for a lifetime is no quick fix, but it means getting and staying fit to experience the best possible quality of life for health and aging.

 

A lifestyle change can be very daunting to individuals whose current level of health and fitness is poor. A fitness workout should involve a realistic, consistent approach with plenty of variety to keep your interest. Many use lack of time and motivation as excuses to not incorporating a fitness workout routine into their lives. The truth of the matter is, we can't afford to wait for motivation to get fit. It is simply determination and commitment. This does not mean you have to go to extremes. It means you need a desire to be healthy, not a desire to go to the gym. And you need accountability to stay consistent.

The desire to be healthy varies with each individual. Some people have the desire. Implementing some minor changes to the diet and adding some form of exercise each day i.e. walking the dog around the neighborhood, will be satisfactory. Others set lofty goals for running a marathon. You may fall somewhere in between. Which ever category you fall into determines the means to which you can stay with the program. The dog walker may need an energetic dog staring him in the face, begging for that walk each day or a neighbor to walk with at a set time 3 days per week. The marathon runner will need a training group or a coach to set up a fitness workout to follow in preparation. The idea is to have something or someone to be accountable to, or a significant goal to reach.

 

Here are a few proven fitness workout tips:

•  Hire a personal trainer.

•  Find a training partner or training group.

•  Decide on a goal such as a race or an active vacation.

•  Get involved in an active hobby.

 

Hiring a personal trainer forces you to set an appointment that costs money if you don't show up or cancel at the last minute. The commitment to a fitness workout becomes part of your busy schedule just like every other appointment in your day planner. With a personal trainer your workouts become more effective and more efficient, with less chance of injury. Let someone else worry about what your fitness workout involves, it's less for you to think about.

 

Finding a training partner or training group is a more cost effective way to commit to your fitness workout. It becomes a social outlet. Groups usually meet at varying locations to keep it interesting and fun. Partners and groups add the accountability needed to avoid skipping a workout. Many of your friends are looking for the same healthy lifestyle and they also want someone to do it with.

 

A fitness workout for an active vacation or a race can be a fun approach to getting in shape. Many people want to ski or hike in the Alps, cycle through a beautiful wine country, or train for a particular race event. Anticipating a spectacular vacation can be great motivation for getting fit. Most cities have race publications with all the races listed in the area, from 5K's to Marathons. Race training can be very motivating and rewarding if you choose to join a cause and raise money for a charity. Many charities have training groups for marathons and other active events which offer coaching for the participants and interesting destinations for the race. This can be a life changing way to start on your quest for a long term fitness workout. You'll find yourself dreaming of your next event to train for.

 

Getting involved in an active hobby is another great way to commit to a great fitness workout. This may involve taking lessons in a particular activity you never thought you could do or joining a recreational team that competes regularly in your community. Getting involved in a recreational hobby takes the pain out of going to the gym but gets you similar results.

 

The bottom line is there are many ways to achieve a safe and effective fitness workout. You just have to go get it. Make the appointment, find a social outlet, plan an active vacation, do something to get a glimpse of the desire to be healthy, your body and mind will thank you.
